Author Guidelines

JOTTER: Journal of Teacher Training and Educational Research publishes original scholarly articles in teacher education, professional development, educational research, educational policy, instructional innovation, educational technology, and related fields. Manuscripts must be written in clear academic English and must be relevant to the journal’s Focus and Scope.

Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by another journal or publisher. Manuscripts that have been presented at conferences, seminars, or similar academic forums may be considered, provided that the prior presentation is disclosed to the Editorial Office and the manuscript has not been formally published in proceedings or another publication.

All manuscripts must be prepared using the official JOTTER manuscript template and submitted through the JOTTER online submission system.

Manuscript Language and Length

JOTTER accepts manuscripts written in English only. Manuscripts should contain 8-10 pages, excluding references, tables, figures, and appendices. Manuscripts must be prepared on A4 paper, in one column, using Garamond font size 11 and 1.15 line spacing, unless otherwise specified in the official template.

Title and Author Information

The article title must be concise, informative, and relevant to the content of the manuscript. The title must not exceed 15 words.

The complete manuscript must include the names of all authors, institutional affiliations, city, country, and the email address of the corresponding author. One author may be designated as the corresponding author.

JOTTER applies a double-blind peer-review process. Therefore, authors must also submit an anonymized manuscript version for peer review. The anonymized manuscript must not include author names, affiliations, email addresses, acknowledgements, funding information, author contribution statements, or other information that may reveal the identity of the author(s). The complete manuscript with author information will be retained by the Editorial Office and used for production after acceptance. This is consistent with JOTTER’s double-blind review procedure.

Abstract and Keywords

Each manuscript must include an English abstract of 150–250 words in one paragraph.

The abstract should briefly state the research background or problem, objective, method, participants or data source, key findings, and conclusion or implication. The abstract should not contain citations, quotations, tables, figures, abbreviations that are not explained, or unnecessary technical details.

Authors must provide 3–5 keywords separated by commas. Keywords should accurately represent the main concepts, methods, population, or subject area of the manuscript.

Manuscript Structure

Research articles should normally be organized into the following sections:

  1. Introduction
  2. Methods
  3. Results and Discussion
  4. Conclusion
  5. Acknowledgements, where applicable
  6. Declarations
  7. References

The Introduction should present the background, current state of knowledge, research gap, research problem, rationale, and objective of the study.

The Methods section should clearly explain the research approach, design, participants or population and sample, setting, instruments, procedures, data collection techniques, data analysis, and ethical considerations where applicable.

The Results and Discussion section should present findings clearly and discuss them in relation to relevant theories, previous studies, and the research objectives.

The Conclusion should directly answer the research objective or research question. It should be written in paragraph form and should not merely repeat the results.

Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, including students, teachers, lecturers, parents, school personnel, administrators, or other educational stakeholders, must comply with applicable ethical requirements.
Authors must obtain informed consent where appropriate, protect participant privacy and confidentiality, and obtain permission from relevant schools, institutions, or authorities where required. Research involving minors must include consent from parents or legal guardians where applicable.
Authors must provide ethical clearance, institutional approval, permission letters, or related supporting documents when required by the study context or requested by the Editor.

Tables, Figures, and Supporting Materials

Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively and cited in the manuscript text. Each table or figure must include a concise caption.
Authors should avoid phrases such as “the table above,” “the figure below,” or similar position-based references because the layout may change during publication production.
Tables and figures must be clear, readable, and relevant to the discussion. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted materials, including images, figures, instruments, tables, and lengthy quotations.

References and Citation Style

JOTTER uses the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition citation and reference style.
Manuscripts must include at least 15 references. Approximately 80% of references should be primary sources, especially peer-reviewed national and international journal articles published within the last 10 years.
All works cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all items in the reference list must be cited in the manuscript text.
Authors are strongly encouraged to use a reference management application such as Zotero, Mendeley, or another compatible reference manager.

Similarity and Plagiarism Screening

All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism-detection software.
JOTTER allows a maximum similarity index of 25%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be returned to the author for correction and resubmission before further editorial processing. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, text recycling without proper citation, data fabrication, data falsification, citation manipulation, and other forms of publication misconduct are not acceptable. JOTTER may apply further actions in accordance with its Plagiarism Policy and Publication Ethics.

Declarations

The following declarations are mandatory and must be completed in the manuscript:

  • AI Usage Statement
  • Author Contribution
  • Funding Statement
  • Competing Interest
  • Acknowledgements, where applicable

Artificial intelligence tools, including generative AI tools, cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, ethical compliance, confidentiality, and integrity of all submitted content.
Any substantial use of AI tools for drafting, translation, language editing, coding, data analysis, image generation, or other research-related activities must be disclosed in the AI Usage Statement.
Where there is no funding or competing interest, authors must state:

Funding Statement: The authors received no specific funding for this work.

Competing Interest: The authors declare no competing interests.

Submission and Review Process

All manuscripts must be submitted through the JOTTER online submission system.

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening will normally be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. JOTTER applies a double-blind peer-review process in which authors and reviewers remain anonymous during the review process.

Reviewers normally complete their evaluation within two weeks. Authors receiving a minor revision decision are normally given two weeks to revise the manuscript, while authors receiving a major revision decision are normally given four weeks.

Editorial Information

The article history, DOI, volume, issue number, page numbers, copyright notice, final layout, and publication metadata are completed by the Editorial Office after acceptance.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the submitted manuscript follows this guideline and the official JOTTER manuscript template.
